for Gifted Children of the USA (NAGC) on its annual meeting in 2001 had
an international special strand on "Math for High Ability Students".

Creativity

This conference was organized by Agnis Andzans and his team.
Brilliant
ideas came together. About 40 people from 15 countries discussed
the role of creativity and the role of competitions on future
developments
in mathematics education. There are proceedings available (130 pages, 5

Conference on
"Creativity
in Mathematics Education and the Education of Gifted Students"
(3 - 9 August 2003
in Rousse, Republic of Bulgaria)
was organized with great success by Emiliya
Angelova Velikova and her staff at the University of Rousse. For

ICME 10
In 2004 at ICME 10 in Copenhagen
(Denmark) Linda K. Sheffield (Chair),
Hartwig Meissner (Germany) and Foong Pui Yee (Singapore) run a workshop
on two
days on "creativity in mathematics education" with about 50
participants. In
Copenhagen there also was a discussion among experts how to continue
the exchange of ideas and experiences in the field of creativity in
mathematics education. To get closer contacts to colleagues from South
East
Asia / Australia it was recommended to attend EARCOME 3 in 2005
in Shanghai (see below).

This conference was excellently organized by Alena
Hospesova and her team in a very attractive old city. There were
about 40 participants from 22 countries to present a broad range

61st meeting of the International Commission
for the Study
and Improvement
of Mathematics Teaching
Montreal, Canada, July 26 - 31 2009
Chair of the conference: Louise Poirier and her team
CIEAEM chose in the 2009 conference the theme “Mathematical Activity in Classroom Practice and as Research Object in Didactics: Two Complementary Perspectives”. One of the five sub-themes was Creativity in mathematical activities. Coordinators of this subtheme were Hartwig Meissner and Viktor Freiman. The participants of the working group for this subtheme were invited to reflect on and to discuss how to stimulate creative thinking and how to nurture and support the development of mathematical creativity and the realization of mathematical promise. There were interesting and challenging discussions in a group of more than 25 participants from more than 15 countries.
