The aim of the conference is to give talented young researchers in Set Theory the opportunity to learn from experts and from each other in a friendly, co-operative environment; to create a network of researchers (young and senior) in order to establish working contacts and to better disseminate knowledge in the field. We consider set theorists who do not have a permanent position as young.
This will be the 2nd meeting of this type. The first one took place with great success in Bonn in January 2008. The inspiration, knowledge and collaborations gained at the previous conference led to a near unanimous consensus amongst participants and organizers that such a conference for young people should be an annual event.
It is estimated that of 40 participants (including 10 speakers), 30-35 will arrive from within Europe and the rest will travel overseas, mainly from the US or Canada.
Four invited tutorial speakers will give minicourses of 4 hours. They have been chosen based on their work in the field and based on their ability to interact with, support, and encourage young people. They will give morning tutorials about their work.
We have also invited six outstanding post-docs to give talks of 1 hour of duration about the latest research in their field. The rest of the participants will be PhD students and recent postdocs in Set Theory who will be chosen based on their research statements.
The research statements of all participants will be made available at this web page, and will also be distributed in paper to all participants. The statements should be written so that any set theorist can understand them and include any results or work-in-progress that one is willing to share or discuss, with references to papers and preprints. Based on the research statements, specific discussion sessions will be formed for those working in similar areas and more general sessions for those interested in getting an overview of the latest research in Set Theory. Every senior researcher will be asked to lead a discussion session relating to the topic of his/her tutorial. This will be organized in a general meeting at the beginning of the session, but will also leave open the possibility of the formation of more spontaneous groups.
The meeting will consist of morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session (4h) will be reserved for the tutorials of the senior researchers. In the afternoon the participants will be organized into small groups for discussion sessions (2-3h) and the day will be concluded with a talk given by an outstanding postdoc (1h). At the end of the day, we will meet altogether again to hear a talk by an outstanding invited postdoc.
