Topic: 4. Symposion of the SFB
Dates: June 1 - June 4, 2004
Scope: The SFB covers Arithmetic-, Rigid-, Analytic-, Differential- and Noncommutative Geometry and Algebraic Topology with a particular emphasis on interactions. Every two years it hosts a 'Symposion` reporting on new developments in these geometric theories.
Confirmed participants: Y. André, M. Boileau, O. Bültel, A. Chambert-Loir, M. Dadarlat, W. Duke, M. Emerton, G. Huisken, I. Irmer, B. Khesin, T. Küssner, G. Laumon, J. Lohkamp, K. Marathe, A. Miller, U. Tillmann, B. Tsygan, M. Weiss, X. Yang

Gauss lecture: The afternoon of June 2 will be reserved for the Gauss lecture of the German mathematical society. The speakers will be I.M. Singer and K. Volkert.

The lectures will take place at the Schloss, Schlossplatz 2, 48149 Münster.

Topic: Workshop "COLLAPSING AND METRIC GEOMETRY"
Dates: August 1-7, 2004
Organizers: K. Grove, W. Tuschmann, B. Wilking
Scope: In the last decades, collapsing and convergence techniques and results and methods from Alexandrov and metric geometry have deeply widened our understanding of manifolds and metric spaces with given curvature bounds.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and report on recent developments in these areas. Our intention is to bring together experts in the field as well as young mathematicians. We are scheduling about five lectures on most days, and the program of the workshop will be structured so that beyond the lectures, there will be many opportunities for intensive discussions.

Unfortunately, only limited support is available. However, for invited participants we will typically be able to cover all local expenses. For individual details, do not hesitate to contact the local organizers.

Confirmed participants: S. Alexander (UIUC), B. Ammann (Bonn), A. Balser (München), I. Belegradek (Atlanta), V. Berestovskii, M. Bless, Y. Burago (St. Petersburg), S. Buyalo (St. Petersburg), A. Engoulatov (Orsay), T. Foertsch (Michigan), P. Ghanaat (Fribourg), R. Gunesch (Leipzig), U. Hamenstädt (Bonn), V. Kapovitch (Santa Barbara), C.-W. Kim, U. Lang (Zürich), J. Lott (Michigan), A. Here you can find the program and abstracts.
All lectures will take place at lecture hall M5.

Travel and Accomodation: Most participants will stay in the hotels "Am Schlosspark" or "Coerdehof". Please feel free to ask Ms. Weckermann for assistance with hotel reservations. General information on travelling to Münster and the SFB and Department of Mathematics is provided under http://wwwmath.uni-muenster.de/math/inst/sfb/about/veranst/visitor.html.
