Workshop on Model Theory & Operator Algebras
Workshop on Model Theory & Operator Algebras
Münster, 7.–11. July 2014
Organized by Ilijas Farah, Bradd Hart and Wilhelm Winter.
The aim of this workshop is it to better understand recently emerged applications of model theory to C*-algebras.
(The workshop will be related on work in progress a preliminary report of which can be found here.
A somewhat less preliminary preprint of a paper on omitting types in continuous logic used in the above can be found here.)
We plan on a light number of talks (mainly service talks at least for the first few days), devoting a lot of time to interaction – maybe even to prove a theorem or two..
Practical:
Here is the schedule.
To get started:
Walk to the institute on Monday morning
and register (9:00–9:30) on ground floor (SR0) of the tall building. Talks start at 9:30.
Wireless / local desktops:
If possible, use eduroam. Alternatively, Elke will be able
to provide you with a temporary guest login.
Talks:
In SRZ 117, first floor of the new new building.
(Much more easy to find than to explain.)
Coffee breaks:
SR0, ground floor, tall building.
Lunch:
Mensa am Ring is the default place. For coffee, use Viva Café (not the (instant) coffee bar). Or the Italian places.
Or 403.
Dinner / beer:
La Vecchia Casa is quite convenient. There are also many places downtown; typical Westfalian restaurants are Kiepenkerl, Pinkus, Leve, Stuhlmacher, or Drübbelken.
Go to Jüdefelder Straße for classical (typical?) student bars. At the “Hafen” you’ll find a lot of restaurants and bars;
nice to sit outside when the weather is good. (On the other side of town; it’s possible to walk, but not exactly close.)
Pretty fancy: Gourmet 1895 (*), Villa Medici, Giverny,
Il Cucchiaio Argento.
Bicycles:
You’ll hear a lot of talk about Münster being a bike place.
It’s true, so no loitering on the red bike tracks.
You can rent a bike from the Radstation at the station or downtown.
Office space
...is sparse. We have booked SR0 and SRZ 117 (almost)
throughout the week; outside talks and coffee breaks these
should be o.k. to work. You can also use the library.
We have a small number of available shared offices;
let us know if you’d prefer to use one of those.
Workshop dinner:
Tuesday, 18:30 at Il Galletti, Germania Campus.
Here’s a map to walk there from Hotel am Schloßpark.
It’s not far, but depending on weather, you might prefer to go by bus: Take the 6 from Steinfurter Str. B (or from Kanonierplatz B) to Germania Campus.
